The ESM is currently looking for a trainee to support the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Communications team in its tasks over a minimum period of six months. The ESM Communications team is responsible for both internal and external communications, including serving as a contact point for journalists. Our team works mainly on speaking engagements, digital content creation for the ESM website, social media, and internal communications, and publications.
PURPOSE OF THE TRAINEESHIP
- Support the work of speechwriters and ESM blog managers.
- Follow trends and developments in the public debate on economic policy in the euro area.
- Support our social media activities by helping prepare content for social media posts and campaigns.
- Support the drafting of articles for the ESM’s intranet platform.
- Prepare content for the ESM website.
KEY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
- A candidate (or recent graduate within one year of graduation) for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an area related to the ESM’s work (economics, political science, public policy, finance) and/or communications/journalism.
- Strong interest in European affairs and/or economics.
- An initial experience in the field of journalism or communications is considered an asset.
- Practical knowledge and understanding of graphic design and/or video making, social media tools, and familiarity with photo editing is an asset.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) is the permanent crisis resolution mechanism for euro area countries. It provides financial assistance to Members facing financing difficulties. To date, the ESM and its predecessor organisation, the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), have launched six financial assistance programmes to five countries, provided financial support, monitored repayment capacity, and engaged with partner institutions for programme design in areas of financial interest.
