We are looking for an experienced economist and/or financial market analyst, preferably with management experience, to lead the team of Market Risk Officers within the Risk Management Division. It is a pivotal role to ensure effective oversight and coordination of market risk monitoring and reporting for the ESM fixed income investment and funding activities. In addition, the Team Lead contributes to the continuous enhancement of the institution’s risk management framework. The selected person will report to the Head of the division.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Oversee and coordinate the Market Risk and Reporting team to ensure efficient day-to-day risk monitoring and the production of daily risk reports for senior management.
- Supervise the production, enhancement, and presentation of risk reports and ad hoc analysis for internal committees, the Management Board, and Board of Directors.
- Monitor the maintenance and organise quality checks of input data used for risk monitoring and reporting. Lead the development of the risk management architecture, including the risk tools, data layer, and reporting solutions.
- Actively contribute to cross-departmental activities and projects. Represent Risk Management in key change projects and initiatives aimed at further developing ESM activities, including new instruments, tools, and systems.
- Maintain, update, and develop internal risk policies and procedures that follow best practices and external guidelines.
- Contribute to the definition of the strategic objectives and also the resource planning and hiring process for the Risk Management division. Conduct regular performance assessments and goal setting for team members, and support their engagement and professional development through ongoing coaching and on-the-job training.
- Promote a risk culture and ensure good collaboration with other divisions.
- Represent the ESM at external industry groups and act as a point of contact for other institutions.
KEY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
- University degree in finance with a specialisation in banking or equivalent. A relevant professional qualification and/or post-graduate studies would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 12 years in financial risks (market and liquidity risks), portfolio management and operations, including experience in managing cross divisional and IT projects in a financial institution or international organisation.
- In depth knowledge of financial markets, the regulatory framework, including portfolio and risk management methodologies (e.g. VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis). Solid understanding of financial products, particularly fixed income (investment, borrowing) and derivatives, including foreign exchange and interest rate swaps.
- Proficiency in financial product valuation and portfolio performance measurement and analysis. Experience with common IT systems (including Murex, MSCI, Bloomberg, MS Office) prevalent in banking, trading, risk, and portfolio management. Technical skills in VBA, Python, SQL programming, PowerQuery for data management, and PowerBI for visualisation are an asset.
- Proven experience in staff supervision and demonstrated ability to effectively manage resources to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are considered an asset.
